I have been involved in Political By Law issues in Oshawa for a number of years and this is an important piece of legislature that needs to be nipped in the bud immediately even though it is in BC.    During my involvement in By Law issues, City Councilors, look to see if another city have set a precedence and typically follow suit believing that it has been fully investigated and not challenged by other Cities/Townships etc.

If this piece of legislature is allowed to pass, it WILL sweep across the rest of Canada as it gives the Animal Rights folks a foot hold and credibility into the parrot world.

This is exactly how the Pit Bull Ban and other animal issues evolved.
I hope you will spread the word on this issue and voice your opinions to those in power in BC that this is totally unacceptable.

If we do not act now, within a very short period of time, exotic parrots will be banned from our homes faster than we can shake our heads!

I don’t agree with banning parrots or any exotic bird from our homes.. To me this is now violation of the rights and freedoms act to have what we want for pets, they are not dangerious and are considereated as very theriputic for the sick and eldlery as well an great pets.

Captive birds Cannot be released into the wild and survive therefore considered Domesticated. (read that anywhere)

      Tame hand raised pet birds:
Example: Although Cockatoos come from Australia, the ones kept as pets in the US/CANADA are domestic.

To prevent bird smuggling extremely rare in bc, the Ban must be directed at something other than the birds. Perhaps airlines any source of travel transport.

    3. I’m certainly no avian expert, but we might have a problem with the definition of the parrots! Most places read that although captive bred, they are still wild animals and have NOT been domesticated …

This is certainly disturbing news, and I can, unfortunately, see this becoming a huge problem.

    4. I absolutely agree with you Marion. The only thing that would change is a minor change in the definition as to what is meant. Just because we can use semantics does not change the issue in the slightest. It is a very serious problem and unless we can get some people in BC to take action, I am sorry but the rest of us are going to suffer soon also!

    5. This isn’t fair. I would hope they wouldn’t ban exotic birds. Does this include the small, harmless birds young children come to know and love, too? They’ve banned the Pit Bull, that’s bad enough. But exotic birds?!
If they ban the birds we already have here I will be so angry! People smuggling wild birds here to become captive is cruel, I agree.
