Lotto Yellow Shouldered Amazon is a rare species of amazon with only  a very few in Canada.  She was brought here from her native Venezuela when the family moved here.  Over time they stopped working with her but she is now stepping up willingly for us.  She is 38 yrs old and in good feather and health.  Lotto is on hold for now due to a recent surgery related to a vitamin A deficiency.  She is doing very well but will be monitored for a little longer before she is placed for adoption.

Joey is a 12 yr old Red Lored Amazon.  He has been badly neglected.  His beak is badly overgrown and his diet has been horrible.  He’s very overweight and we have thrown out his cage  as we do not believe it had every been thoroughly cleaned.  We will be slowly working on fixing his overgrown beak and getting him on a better diet.

  • Bella – Blue and Gold Macaw

Bella is a female blue and gold macaw and is approximately 6 yrs old.  She came in with Rocky the Catalina from the same rescuer.  Here is what I recieved from her rescuer.

“i was told  bella was 6 years old, was a pet, then the owner decided they did not want her and they sold her, this person put her in a breeding program, bella was with 2 male mccaw, because he though that she will like one but it became a competition between the two males, they were very mean to her, after unsuccessful breeding he gave her to this store”

Bella is very underweight and bald to the skin and nervous right now.  We will be working on all these issues to get her healthy and happy again.  We are waiting on some test results from her vet to help us determine the best course of action for Bella at this time.

We have just received two Kakarikis at the rescue.  Both are in rough shape and will be undergoing vet care.  They are presently in quarantine.  Both Kakarikis are badly plucked and it does appear that they have plucked each other as their heads have also been plucked.  They appeared to have a good diet but their cage and food bowls were filthy.

  • Dutchie – Blue Lovebird

Dutchie was found in a ditch in a rural area.  She was taken to the vets by the person who found and was treated with antibiotics as she had a damaged wing.  She has completed the antibiotics and we continue to medicate the wing. Once healed she will become available for adoption.
