Hi, I have a coquaciel (cockatoo) that was given to me about 18 months ago. When I got it (him), it screamed all the time and tempted to bit as I approached it. It knew nothing and was very wild. Today it has a vocabulary of about 50 words, it is able to whistle 6 different tunes and is learning more. It doesn't try to bit anymore, actually it now is very gentle and (not sure what the english word is) "pluckers" my nose when I approach it. I let it out of his cage everyday, well I leave his cage door open for one hour each day, sometimes it doesn't come out or comes out for just a few minutes and goes back in. Most of the time it comes out and flies around, comes on my shoulder or it's pearch that I made available for it (in front of a mirror) All this is fine and I think I am doing a good job with it, but, my wife and I work and leave home most of the day. I get back home first, and when I do, I notice that Kali (his name) screames and this before he can see or hear that I am arriving, this what ever the time I get home. I beleive it screames all the time we are out. This is my first problem with Kali. How can I get it to relax when we are out?

The second problem I have with Kali is that I can't get it to eat anything else than commercial bird food.I know (because of people like you, who care about these birds, who share their knowledge) that he can and should have a very diversified diet to live a long time (I hear about 30 years). What can I do to get it to eat better? (I regularly add all kinds of food, cut small, in his meal box but he just picks the stuff up and drops it out without eating it.

Thanks for your assisance and keep up with the good work!
